Hurst Angling Club Winter League Gets Underway!

Hurst Angling Club Winter League got off to a great start today, 10 October 2026, with some excellent results coming in from the anglers taking part. Consistency and keeping the fish interested throughout the day made a promising start to this year’s competition.

Eleven club members took to the banks for the opening match, enjoying fairly settled conditions. Mild temperatures, cloudy skies with bright intervals and very little wind made for a pleasant and sometimes tricky day’s fishing, with plenty of action to keep everyone interested.

A Great Mix of Fish

The keepnets saw a good variety of fish, with Carp, F1s, Roach and Bream making up the bulk of the weigh-in. It was encouraging to see fish coming out across the match, giving the anglers plenty to think about as they worked to build their weights.

Maggots, Pellets and casters were the main baits of choice on the day, although other options, including corn, punched bread and worms, also have their place. As every angler knows, what works well one day doesn’t always produce the same results the next — adapting to the conditions and the fish is all part of the challenge!

The Winter League Format

This year’s Winter League currently consists of upto 12 matches, with anglers allowed to drop their two lowest-scoring matches or two that could not be fished for any reason. For those fishing the full series, their best ten weights will count towards the final standings, keeping the competition alive right through the season.

With the opening match now complete, there’s everything to fish for as the league progresses. Consistency will be crucial, and every match could make a difference to the final table.

Keep an eye out for further updates, match results and league standings as the Hurst Angling Club Winter League unfolds.

Good luck to all our members for the matches ahead!
