15 to 17 June 2026
Thanks to club volunteers the task of pulling out what we believe to be Coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum) pond weed continued, the work has been completed over three evenings and has completely cleared the water of the weed. It looks a lot better now and is fully fishable, several larger fish were seen moving about during the process.
It is intended to treat the water with a blue dye over the coming weekend, the blue liquid dye is 100% Non-toxic and safe for all wildlife, the dye has the benefits of reducing light through the water column which in turn reduces algae and weed growth so increasing oxygen levels in the water, whilst giving the water a blue colouration.
Anyone that fishes a water absorbent bait (bread) may find that it turns a harmless blue colour while in use. The colourisation in the water will be naturally diluted through rainfall and the diluted solution will make its way into the main lake at some point so please do not be alarmed.
Coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), also known as hornwort, is a dark green, branching aquatic plant that grows submerged in the water. Although it does not have true roots, it does anchor itself to the sediment. In nutrient rich ponds, coontail can grow very rapidly and become a nuisance but believe it or not you can actually buy this from sellers on auction sites and from main garden centres.
