Planting around the big lake

Saturday & Sunday March 22/23

Many thanks to the volunteers who gave up their Saturday and Sunday mornings in order to complete the replanting of over one thousand Iris flowers around the big lake.  The weather was kind to us once again which made everything a lot nicer.  Not an easy task to undertake and some aching backs and knees at the end of each session.

The plants were obtained from a commercial grower in Staffordshire, James took the time to drive down and collect the plants saving the club a small fortune on delivery (thanks again James).  We had worked out around one thousand three hundred plants would be needed to cover the full circumference of the lake, after some strong negotiations they were bought in at a very favourable price, in the main yellow flag iris, with some blue and some pink, although trying to distinguish between them at this stage of their growth wasn't possible for us.

Out of the one thousand three hundred plants purchased we had around one hundred left over (half a crate), these will come in handy in case any of those we have planted do not take or are pulled out by the two resident Geese currently patrolling the lakes and grounds.

Once again, huge thanks to the club volunteers who gave up their time to make the club waters a better place to go fishing.  The task could not have been carried out without your help.
