Estimating Costs for the project

Saturday January 17th

Plant Machinery

In the usual way we used the internet and Googled for plant hire costs in the area, three hits were telephoned and written quotes obtained for a four ton digging machine and a three ton dumper, to include delivery, insurance and the dreaded VAT.  They were reasonable prices to be fair and pretty well matched with each other.  We also tried Travis Perkins who had supplied previously, they came in at around a third less that the other three so we have provisionally booked them once again.

Estimated fuel costs

Fuel costs are variable, mainly depending on running time for the plant machinery so planning for use is pretty important, this will be done nearer the start date, the cost of fuel itself  is based on price per litre we will be able to guesstimate this once the run times are planned and final  £/per litre obtained.

Land Drain

The cost of the land drain was checked on Google and three prices matched, again we went with Travis Perkins as they we able to beat Googles best when delivery costs were factored in, we measured up at 87 metres needed for the west bank of the lake, buying in at 50 metre rolls, 160mm diameter land drain was considered to be the best choice for the main run, using a french drain method to install it.  We would also need a membrane to cover it or a land drain sock.

Bulk Materials

Bulk materials needed will be for back filling, the drainage system itself and the pathway.  MOT type 3 and type 1 were price checked and written quotes obtained at 20 ton loads delivered on site, the cost of the bulk delivery varied quite considerably, again Travis Perkins came in at about a third of the cost of competitors.

Labour Costs

We have a great team of enthustiastic club volunteers with the correct skill sets to complete the work, so labour costs will be minimal after cups of tea and the occasional bacon sandwitch have been added in.
